Ali Fitzgerald is showing the work she has put into her game and is a much improved prospect.

Ali Fitzgerald of Penfield, N.Y., has continued to grow her skill set as well as her overall game. In this evaluation, we take a look at the rising junior guard who is well known as a sharpshooter.

Vitals

Name: Ali Fitzgerald – Grad Year: 2016
Location: Penfield, N.Y. – School: Penfield HS
Current Position: PG/SG – Projected Position: PG/SG

Strengths

Fitzgerald’s game is unique that at 5 feet 8 she can play both at the point guard position as well as off of the ball. She has worked on her ability to create plays for others and knowing when to deliver the ball for her teammates to convert at a high percentage. Since our last evaluation Fitzgerald has changed high schools, playing the 2013-14 season at Penfield. The move gave her an opportunity to play in New York’s largest classification for public schools. She took full advantage of that showing, even in that realm, that her shot is both quick and accurate from out to 24 feet.

Area To Improve

We talked in our last evaluation about Fitzgerald learning when and where to distribute the basketball to make her team better. She has worked on that aspect of her game leading us to a progression in which our scouting team would love to see her consistently use pin down and double-stagger screens to get open looks when she plays off of the ball. With Fitzgerald’s quick release, learning how to utilize those situations three-to-five times a game to score would only make her that much tougher of an assignment for opposing defenders.

The Bottom Line

Fitzgerald has continued to take our evaluations and use them to shape her game. The sharp-shooting point guard is a vastly different prospect than she was this time 18 months ago. That said we fully expect her to continue to show and prove this summer. She has an invite to compete versus some of the nation’s best at the Elite Basketball Academy Fab Five Camp on August 30-31.
