Oliana Squires of Colorado Springs, Colo., is the latest Feature Player Evaluation with video.

Oliana Squires of Colorado Springs, Colo., has established herself as arguably the state’s premier perimeter threat in the class of 2016.

Vitals

Name: Oliana Squires – Grad Year: 2016
Location: Colorado Springs, Colo. – School: Sand Creek HS
Current Position: SG/PG – Projected Position: SG/PG

Strengths

Squires has proven that she can not only knock down the open shot but attack the lane off of the bounce as well. A four-star prospect, she is a very capable scorer on the perimeter as well as a legitimate ball handler against pressure. Standing right around 5-foot-9, Squires has the length to be a versatile option with the ability to play all three perimeter positions depending on the opposing matchup. In addition to Squires long range prowess, her skill set also includes hitting the pull up jump shot off of the dribble. Defensively, we like Squires activity level as she consistently gets her hand in the passing lane to tip and/or steal the opposing teams passes.

Area To Improve

Squires can continue to improve her overall body strength as she progresses the next 12 months. As much as she likes to drive and attack, improving her strength to take contact will aid in her effectiveness to finish through it. In addition, Squires can get a jump on developing as a next level elite position defender by working on always being aware of ball, time and score.

The Bottom Line

Squires is a gamer who turns it up a notch in crunch time. Her scoring average rose from right at 11 ppg to 19 ppg during the state playoffs. She’s a top flight guard in the region and her recruiting reflects that. Squires also has a scholarship offer from in-state Denver already and based on her play, we expect that is just the beginning of what is to come.
