No. 45 Overbeck Chooses Vandy

No. 45 Overbeck Chooses Vandy
Kayla Overbeck

Vanderbilt and head coach Melanie Balcomb landed their third prospect in the 2016 class with the verbal commitment of Kayla Overbeck of Newbury Park, Calif.  The 6-foot-1 forward from the Cal Sparks club program is ranked No. 45 in the ELITE 60 heading into the summer.

Overbeck brings incredible energy to the court.  She’s an impact player on the glass, using her relentless style to outrebound taller posts.  She’s not afraid to mix it up either, drawing a lot of contact on post ups.  She’s a fluid athlete at the forward position that should be able to attack bigger posts from the face up and attack smaller interior players on the box.

The four-star rated prospect will join two other strong pieces in the Commodores’ 2016 recruiting class. Vandy’s first commit is the No. 6 player in the class, Chassity Carter, a 5-11 guard from Dickson, Tenn., who was joined by four-star wing Erin Whalen, a 6-1 wing-forward from Charlotte, N.C.

Collectively this is a great start in a recruiting year where Balcomb has plenty of scholarships and can aggressively target multiple players regardless of position.  With this depth at the swing positions coming in, look for Vandy to target a point guard and true post.  In the paint Vandy has been connected to Jaiden McCoy of Knoxville, Tenn.
