Recruiting Update

MIAMI Official visit: February 15, 2015
IOWA STATE -- Official visit: February 17, 2015

Many may remember last spring when Laura Cornelius committed to Gonzaga after making official visits to Duke, Gonzaga, and Kansas State. After a coaching change at Gonzaga and an ACL injury, Cornelius decided to postpone crossing the Atlantic for a year and is now looking at Miami and Iowa State as finalists in her recruitment.

Overview

Cornelius is, without a doubt, the top European point guard prospect in the class of 2015. During her prep career, Cornelius has helped lead the Netherlands in six international competitions including appearances in four European Championship events and two World Championship events. She also earned an All-Tournament team honor at the European Championships in 2013.

Her Game

As a classic point guard, Cornelius shows a great feel for the game. She plays the game as an extension of the coach on the floor as she couples a cerebral approach with the ability to handle the basketball and find open teammates with the pass. One area where Cornelius has continued to improve as a prospect is her ability to make open shots from the perimeter. She is now confident enough in her ability to make catch and shoot jumpers that she will force defenses to play her honest. Cornelius compares favorably with former Georgia guard Ashley Houts.

Prospect Projection

Wherever Cornelius ends up; either school will reap the benefits of having an elite playmaker at the point guard position. Next year Cornelius could have a similar impact as current Florida State sophomore Leticia Romero. She has an abundance of experience playing against professionals and internationally. Look for that experience to pay off for Cornelius early in her college career.
