Purdue Strikes Gold Mining Indiana Talent

Purdue Strikes Gold Mining Indiana Talent

Katie Gearlds knows first hand how good Purdue Women’s Basketball can be when the Boilermakers can retain the top in-state talent. Gearlds, a former Miss Indiana Basketball winner in 2003, was a college star in West Lafayette from Day One winning Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 2004. Entering her third season at her alma mater, Gearlds has already experienced success landing quality in-state prospects.

She and her staff did it again twice this week landing two Elite 60 prospects in the Class of 2025 in the process in Avery Gordon of Brownsburg and Kira Reynolds of South Bend. Gordon brings them a true interior presence who can rival the size of any post player currently in the upper echelon of the college game today. Reynolds brings true size of her own but more in the mold of the modern day hybrid forward. To land commitments from Miss Basketball caliber candidates in both Gordon and Reynolds before their junior high school seasons tip off speaks volumes to the groundwork that Gearlds has laid since she arrived back on campus at her alma mater three years ago.

The timing of their choices signify that the Boilermakers should be a force in an ever competitive Big 10 Conference that only gets tougher starting in 2024-25 with the arrival of Oregon, Southern Cal, UCLA and Washington. Coming off of a NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023, momentum appears to be rolling in Gearlds favor inside Mackey Arena on gameday and throughout the home state on the recruiting trail.
