Helms to Nebraska

Helms to Nebraska
Four-star guard Makenzie Helms has picked Nebraska

Nebraska coach Amy Williams and her staff received some good news last week when 2019 point guard Makenzie Helms made a verbal pledge to the Big Ten program. Helms, who has offers from schools in the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and others, is a four-star prospect and the first member of the 2019 class to commit to Nebraska.

For Nebraska, Helms will give them an impact point guard who can run an offense and play with toughness. Helms is a playmaking point guard who will set teammates up and make the game easier for those around her. Adding a point guard in the mold of Helms is a key for any program, but with Williams still in her first years at Nebraska, Helms could be just the catalyst to give Williams a coach on the floor as the Nebraska staff continues to lay a foundation to build on for years to come. Helms is a high IQ point guard who will give Nebraska the flexibility to play with pace in transition or slow it down and play in the half court when needed.

Moving forward, look for Nebraska to be active on the recruiting trail. Their 2018 recruiting class is ranked as the No. 41 class in the country and is comprised of Ashtyn Veerbeek, Leigha Brown, Samantha Haiby, and Kayla Mershon. With Helms on the board in 2019, Nebraska has a good jump on adding another solid class to Lincoln.
