Amber Ramirez, the No. 11 ranked prospect in the 2016 ELITE 60, verbally committed to Oklahoma State this weekend. The 5-foot-9 combo guard from San Antonio, Texas, chose the Cowgirls over schools such as Baylor, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech and Washington.

Ramirez is an elite combo guard with a great combination of ballhandling skills and deep range. As an eighth grader she earned the nickname “Sauce” while playing at EBA Super 64 West Camp for her ability to break players down off the dribble.

This summer she moved primarily to the off-guard position and her game grew tremendously as she became as deadly scoring off a catch and read scenario as she is in one-on-one scenarios. She was teamed up with Oklahoma commit Chelsea Dungee this summer on the San Antonio Finest club team and duo played really well together. In college the two will be rivals.

Ramirez is the first commitment for Oklahoma State in the 2016 class. She comes on the heels of the Cowgirls landing 6-2 forward Jentry Holt of Elgin, Okla., 6-1 forward Latashia Jones of Leavenworth, Kan., and 5-8 combo guard Karli Wheeler of Plainview, Texas.

Ramirez is an impact recruit in the region and with a young roster in Stillwater, the Cowgirls may be selective with the remaining two scholarships. Replacing current junior Brittney Martin, who was second on the team in scoring behind last year’s electric senior point guard, Tiffany Bias, should be a priority. When Ramirez hits campus in two years time, she will provide the program that won 25 games last season a missing weapon; a knock-down 3-point shooter.
