Connecticut picked up its first verbal commitment for the class of 2016 when 5-foot-5 point guard Crystal Dangerfield of Murfreesboro, Tenn., made a pledge to the defending national champions after an unofficial visit. Dangerfield, who considered schools such as South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Louisville, and Maryland in her recruiting process, should fit well at the American Conference school as she has a similar game and build to current junior point guard Moriah Jefferson.

In going to Connecticut, Dangerfield has an opportunity to continue adding to the narrative that supports her pedigree as a winner. In her first couple of years as a high school prospect, Dangerfield has been very successful as a prep. In addition to being a member of the FIBA gold medal winning USA U16 national team, her high school team, Blackman, won a national championship this past season. In addition her club team, Tennessee Flight, won a Nike National championship where she contributed as just an eighth grader. With two more high school season’s to go Dangerfield has the opportunity to continue to build on that success before ever setting foot on a college campus.

In the 2015 class Connecticut looked to add size to its frontcourt with Katie Lou Samuelson, Naphessa Collier, and Dejanae Boykin heading to Storrs. In addition to the trio of 2015 prospects, Connecticut added 6-5 post Natalie Butler who transferred from Georgetown.

With the remainder of their 2016 scholarships look for the Huskies to focus on specific prospects versus working to address a specific need. Top prospects such as Lauren Cox, Joyner Holmes and Sabrina Ionescu could all be names in play.
