Wedin Picks St. Mary's

On Wednesday right before the kickoff of the July evaluation period, Taycee Wedin of Milwaukie, Oregon committed to St. Mary’s coach Paul Thomas and his staff.  Wedin, a 5-foot-9 wing, is a four-star prospect and one of the best perimeter shooters in the class of 2018.  She picked the West Coast Conference school over offers from Clemson, Texas Tech, and Washington.

Although Wedin tore her ACL before the April evaluation period, she did early enough in her prep career to stand out as an elite perimeter shooter both off the catch and the bounce. Here is a look at an evaluation of her play during the Nike Tournament of Champions in December of 2016.

“Wedin is one of the elite perimeter shooters in the 2018 class. At 5-foot-9 she has a quick release and gets her feet set and square with consistency and speed.  As a prospect, Wedin projects as a specialist, but in the last calendar year, we have seen her do more off the bounce. While she will need to continue to work in this area, the growth in her game could allow her to be a more balanced offensive player as a quality perimeter shooter who can make scoring plays on the move.”
